PRODUCT REVIEW
8 simple tips for email management in Microsoft Outlook
By Joe Dolittle

Every software product that has add-ins -- whether it's Photoshop, or Outlook, or Lotus Notes, or even the iPhone -- has an army of developers adding features, goodies, and resources. And each developer community has its own personality. Some are pompous and annoying, some are down to earth, some are world-weary, and some are helpful.

I've really come to like developers who add features to Outlook. Nearly everyone I've met who makes add-ons for Outlook is both helpful and practical. I've not met a single Outlook add-on developer who won't tell you a good trick or tip, even if that means not buying their add-on.

Sanjay Singh of Addins4Outlook.com is one such developer. He makes a bunch of great add-ons and we're pleased that he's a sponsor of OutlookPower. But, as our readers have long come to know, we won't ever pander to our advertisers and have lost more than one very lucrative ad deal simply because we insist on reviewing products honestly. <sigh>

The reason I'm telling you all this is because Sanjay recently released an ebook called "8 Simple Tips for E-Mail Management in Microsoft Outlook". It's free and you can download it at http://www.standss.com/t/0904/report.asp.

If you use Outlook, you should definitely download this book. Frankly, I would have prefered to run each of his 8 tips as articles in OutlookPower (hey, Sanjay, can we?), because they're very helpful. He discusses archiving, how to think about Outlook rules, how to backup Outlook data, organizing your data into Outlook files, how to file your email so it makes sense, how to setup Outlook screen for easier filing, when to do your filing, and what to do about sent items.

This is a great guide. Although he mentions his add-ons, none of his tips require you buy anything. This is just a great guide that will almost definitely save you some hassle and frustration.

We give it a 4 out of 5.
