Six brilliant ways to get more from Outlook 2007 (continued)
Of course, this means you now have a new, separate copy of your PST file on a second computer. If you use this as a data source, all will be fine, but if you download your email to the PST file, you may have to keep track of what email goes where.
Brilliant way #2: Manage emails on two computers You may also check email on the second computer, but want all email messages to live on the first computer. With removing copies of messages from the server as the default download setting, your second computer could prevent the first from ever seeing the emails. To leave a copy of messages on the server on the secondary computer, do the following:
- Select Account Settings from the Tools Menu.
- Select the account and select Change.
- Select the More Settings button.
- Select the Advanced tab.
- Check the box next to Leave a copy of messages on the server as shown in Figure A.

Brilliant way #3: Deal with long email conversations An email message with multiple people responding and forwarding gets long and unwieldy. A participant may enter the conversation late in the game, which means scrolling to the bottom and reading up.
Instead of scrolling down, move the mouse pointer next to the message header within the email body and "First" and "Previous" or "Next" and "Last" appear as Figure B shows. Select "First" and you jump to the first message.

Brilliant way #4: Give spam a good kick The junk email filter works to move spam and other unwanted email messages to your Junk folder. Outlook turns on the filter by default with the protection level set to Low. To view Junk email Options, select Junk email from the Actions menu and select Junk email Options as Figure C shows.

The filter also reviews all incoming messages for phishing, so you don't submit personal information to a fraudulent Web site that resembles the real Web site. The Options page, by default, disables links and scripts in phishing messages. You can also change the level of filtering in the Junk email Options box.
Add, edit and remove email addresses and domain names in the Safe Senders, Safe Recipients and Blocked Senders tabs using the Add, Edit and Remove buttons in each tab. Some Web sites publish text files with known addresses that you can import into Outlook's Blocked Senders list. However, spammers never stick with an address for long and it's impossible to keep up with all the bad senders out there on the Internet.
The International tab lets you filter email messages appearing in other languages than your own to the Junk folder. If you don't have family, friends or colleagues in countries or using top-level domains like AD (Andorra) or ZW (Zimbabwe), you may want to block messages from those top-level domains.
