Dieting tips for effective data loss: downsizing your mailbox (continued)

The new Search Folder, shown in Figure A, is created in the Navigation Pane under Search Folders. To rename the Search folder, right-click the folder and then click Rename.

The word "weight" is defined as the amount or quantity of heaviness or mass. Losing weight can be accomplished by reducing calories found in the five major food groups: grains, vegetables and fruits, dairy, protein, and fats and sweets. [Hey, I thought the five food groups were burgers, pizza, chocolate, cookies, and ice cream* -- Ed.]

A particular food can appear to be harmless, but have hidden "bad" elements, such as foods that are often labeled "fat free." These so-called good choices often have added sugar or salt to enhance or even replace flavor lost from removing the fat. The result might still be added calories or weight.

Mailbox messages can also have hidden elements that are not apparent just by looking at the Subject line. Message size is comprised of attachments as well as the message text itself. A message with no attachments might be included in the Large Mail Search Folder because it contains embedded graphics or a large amount of text within the body of the message.

One note: the Large Mail Search Folder is a great feature, but if you've got a big mail file, it could take a long time to do a scan. You might want to open up before going to lunch and then go through it when you get back.

Tip #2: the dreaded "internal cleansing"
To not "gross you out," I'll delicately touch upon this subject. Some health experts claim that the root cause of digestive problems and weight gain is a toxic colon. When build-up is not regularly eliminated, you become bloated, lethargic, and experience other health problems such as stomach pain and constipation. Therefore, you must cleanse and detoxify your colon in order to relieve these problems and discomforts.

Your Outlook mailbox can experience similar symptoms caused by message and data overload. If your mailbox is constantly full, it can cause your computer to run slow; messages can take forever to load; and other applications could become affected. That is why it is important to not only delete large items from your Outlook mailbox, but remember to also empty or "cleanse" the Deleted Items folder.

A convenient method you can use to compact your Outlook data file is to use a Personal Folders file (.pst), which is a data file that stores your messages and other items on your computer. You can assign a .pst file as the default delivery location for email messages. You can also use a .pst to organize and back up files to save for future use.

Tip #3: begin your three-week "reduction plan"
If you are overweight, in order to achieve your goal of optimum health, an effective weight loss plan is probably in order. If your mailbox is maxing out its limit, decreasing its size is mandatory for optimal performance. For three weeks, incorporate the following activities into your daily regimen and you will begin to see better results sooner than later.
