You Perform gives you fifteen powerful add-ins for Outlook (continued)

The Hide Fax Numbers add-in simply does just that -- it hides the fax numbers from the names list, making it much easier to find who you're looking for. Small, simple, and if you need it, a great tool.

Insert date & time
I think the Insert Date & Time add-in, shown in Figure J, is my favorite, simply because it's the first time I've seen time-stamping implemented as completely as I'd like.

Most time-stamp features will stick a time stamp in a document, but you have little control over placement or format. With You Perform's Insert Date & Time add-in, you've got control over the stamp itself, where it's placed, and (oh my gosh, pinch me!) the ability to choose how many lines before and after the time-stamp you want. I love that. I truly love that.

You can even specify different spacing before and after the time-stamp. It gives me chills.

Print on demand
Print on Demand, shown in Figure K, is sort of the opposite of the tree-killing Auto Print add-in.

The Print on Demand add-in lets you choose to print a message and/or its attachments. It also provides some truncation features in case the addressee list is too long (probably because too many folks were using Auto CC/BCC in the company).

Quick text hotkeys
You Perform includes a keyboard macro feature, shown in Figure L.

This is pretty cool. I've always liked keyboard macro programs, although they've sometimes been annoying or tied up important keys. That said, it's nice to know that you can add some text boilerplate to your messages simply by pressing a hotkey. This is not a full-blown macro program (there are those and they're much more complete), but it does get the job done. One downside: you've got to restart Outlook to activate any new hotkeys.

Hey, for a whole product that cost less than forty bucks, don't complain.

Reply to all monitor
As I worked my way through this product, I began to feel like I was watching two sides of a bureaucratic tennis match. On one side you had the Auto CC/BCC feature which made sure messages got distributed all over. On the other side is the Reply To All Monitor, shown in Figure M, which makes sure you really want everyone to get your message.

This little feature simply pops up a warning, asking if you really wanted to send a reply to everyone in the known universe or whether you really wanted to just tell Bob you can't make the meeting because you stayed up late last night watching Monster Garage. Anything that can prevent you from looking like a dork to the whole company is a winner in my book.

Save attachments
I'm still deciding how I feel about the Save Attachments add-in, shown in Figure N.

There's no doubt this is a cleanly implemented feature, but this is another one you and your network manager need to think through carefully before using. The basic idea is that when an attachment comes in, instead of it being embedded in the PST file or stored on your server, it's removed from the message and stored in the computer's file system -- possibly with a link in the message to the file.
